Testing and measuring technology becoming quicker and
less expensive
New quality control using the PAM system also in the aviation industry

Generally, technologies used in the aviation and aerospace industries are seen as a model for other industries like the automotive industry. Yet sometimes it works the other way, too: A system often used for controlling quality in the automotive industry is now going to be introduced in the aviation branch. The demands made on monitoring and documenting production processes are becoming more stringent all the time. This gave the Büren-based high-tech company HEGGEMANN aerospace the idea of developing a combination of testing device and mobile measuring technology, making quality control significantly more flexible and effective, quicker and less expensive: the PAM system. The name stands for "Process Analysis and Measuring System" and it has every chance of asserting itself as the control system of the future. Several major vehicle manufacturers and suppliers are already using the system.

The PAM system is extremely versatile and can be used not only for process analysis at the assembly line, but equally for function monitoring, data feedback and documentation. It can be completely integrated into the production process, offers universal analysis possibilities and provides large amounts of process information very quickly. The equipment is straightforward to use, with staff not requiring any specialist measuring technology training. An innovative component nest system guarantees safe reproducibility. Production can be monitored and controlled online during the process, even before production runs out of a narrow tolerance margin. One major advantage in comparison with conventional measuring gauges is that several versions of a single component can be mapped with one single jig. Thus, for example, ten different doors for the Golf car can be controlled using a single measuring system. Changes in components can be entered immediately, preventing down-times almost entirely. This innovative testing and measuring technology is used both in prototype construction and large-scale series production.

Since the PAM system is in the production area and can be used by staff directly at the line, there is no longer any need to transfer components to a separate measuring and control room; further testers there are also unnecessary. Saving enormous amounts of both time and money. About one third of the time is saved for control processes – allowing the company to deliver more quickly.
