WE OFFER AN EXCITING MASTER THESIS WITH A PREPARATORY INTERNSHIP IN THE FIELD OF QUALITY MANAGEMENT:

Development of a thermomechanically coupled FEM model for the simulation of the Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing Process (WAAM)

TASK STATEMENT:

In Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM), components are manufactured by deposition welding. The material properties and production speeds achieved are superior to those of powder-based processes. In order to be able to predict and specifically influence distortion and residual stresses, a thermomechanically coupled simulation model is to be built with LS-Dyna. Practical welding tests are to be carried out, with the data from which the model is subsequently optimized and validated. The training in the production process and in LS-Dyna will be done in a three-month practical training. Afterwards, six months are available for writing the master thesis. The earliest possible start is winter semester 2020/21.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Students of mechanical engineering or WING (MB)
  • Solid previous knowledge in the fields of materials science, welding technology and FEM simulation
  • Proactive way of working, willingness to familiarise oneself with the job and independent, structured work
  • Fluent German and English language skills desirable
